On an Endurance Conquest!
Yesterday, a few guys from my biking brotherhood from Bombay left for a very exciting run (biking term for "trip").
We were planning this trip for a while now (but usually ended up in drunken jaunts at Anupam's place). Part of the now-famous Endurance annual runs across the country by the Yezdi and Jawa Club (of which I am a part of). We began this annual tradition last year with a glorious all-country run to Goa during the infamous first rains in India (June). Quite tricky considering we were navigating rainstorms, and most part of the journey were through the famed Western Ghat mountain range spread across the western part of the country. This was really the first massive run I had done (until then I had just done runs between Bangalore, where I worked earlier, and Chennai...roughly 800 k's both ways in fairly much better weather!). A thousand kilometres of roads bonded the inane biking brotherhood between all of us.
But I wasnt content. I really wanted to do something of a cross-country run. And I was already aching from no suitable challenge. December came by, and Benny and I whisked off on a coast-to-coast 3,000+ kilometre trip from Bombay to Chennai...west coast to east coast on 2 Yezdi's. Saddle bags, leather jackets, gloves, first aid kits, the works. 20 days on the road, so to speak. Met Sushil, on the way back at Goa. I am sure all three of us did some of our best and possibly most dangerous riding during this phenomenal run. The pictures are in India...am having folks scan them up for all of us.
This run, at least from my perspective, laid a good foundation to those of us who were planning ahead for the run to Leh. Yes, that's where these kiddo's have left for. I dont think I am going to get into very many details...but its something like this:

This
is no ordinary run people. These guys will be reaching heights of close
to 3,500 metres on roads across the spectacular Himalayas, and will be
riding through absolutely mountainous terrain...and I mean sometimes no
roads...just rocks and himalayan outback. This particular route, has
apparently, never been done before on a motor-bike!

This
quick entry is just my way of showing solidarity and support for the
boys above doing this one-of-a-kind life-changing run. Unfortunately, I
couldnt join them...I decided to give my career a run up and moved out
of the country to Norway in February 2005. I hope to do a motor-bike run
here in the near future...something that comes atleast close to what
these guys are setting out to accomplish now.
And Hats off to everyone in the club in helping these guys make this run happen. The brotherhood rules.
